Man charged with having pot, gun near school

Suffolk police arrested a man Tuesday and charged him with five crimes after he allegedly was found near a school with drugs and a weapon.

Nakalas Revell, 24, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm in a school zone, possession of marijuana (second offense), possession of a concealed weapon (second offense) and obstruction of justice.

According to city spokeswoman Debbie George, police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Hamer Road, which is across the street from Lakeland High School.

When police got out of their vehicle to approach the suspicious vehicle, it drove off. The vehicle was stopped, and Revell allegedly was found with two baggies of marijuana in his pants pocket and two more in his shoes.

A handgun allegedly also was located in a jacket in the vehicle, George said.
