Ebenezer plans womanless pageant

Ebenezer United Methodist Church will hold a Womanless Beauty Pageant on Saturday at 7 p.m. as a joint fundraiser for the church and for Hope and Happiness, an organization that helps young adults with mental disabilities.
About a dozen men, including Ebenezer church members, will be dressed to impress in women’s fashions for the event. Each contestant will get a chance to strut his stuff for the guests and to collect money in purses from audience members.
The contestant who collects the most money in his purse will be crowned queen for the night.
This is the second year the church has held the event, and organizers hope they are able to raise enough money to help fund a trip on the Carrie B in Norfolk for Hope and Happiness participants.
The Hope and Happiness organization coordinates events such as dances to help about 150 young adults form friendships. Ebenezer has been hosting dances for the group for the past two years.
Tickets — $10 for adults and $5 for children — will be available at the door. Those attending are encouraged to bring plenty of $1 bills to vote for their favorite contestants.
