A Suffolk woman died in a motorcycle accident Tuesday on Interstate 664.
About 2:06 p.m., Virginia State Police received a call of a single-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle that had been carrying two passengers, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.
The motorcycle, a 2011 Kawasaki ZX10, was traveling on the College Drive off-ramp to the northbound side of Interstate 664 when it lost control, ran off the right side of the road, struck the guardrail and tossed both the operator and passenger, Anaya said.
The operator, Melissa Jean DeLoatch, 38, of the 6000 block of Burbage Landing Circle, Suffolk, died on impact, Anaya said. The passenger, 22-year-old Brittney Graves, of Mechanicsville, suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Both women were wearing helmets, and alcohol was not a factor, Anaya said.
