Ocie Davis Copeland

Mr. Ocie Davis Copeland was blessed to eternal rest on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

Ocie Copeland, a native of Suffolk, Va., was born to the late Nathaniel D. and Courtney Brown Copeland.

A majority of Ocie’s life was spent self-employed. He was best known as owner of Blueberry Hill Restaurant in Suffolk, Va., and a local produce vendor. With these work ethics in hand, Ocie’s life reflected strong, quality family binds and community ties.

Ocie was a lifetime member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va. He joined Gethsemane at an early age and later became a member of Pentecostals of Suffolk, where he served as Father of the Church.

His loving wife of 59 years, Sadie Copeland; daughter, Linda A. Copeland; and two brothers, Theodore Copeland Sr. and William T. Copeland, preceded him in death.

Lovingly blessed by Ocie Copeland’s life remain his three children, the Rev. Lonzia O. Copeland (Valorie), of Greenville, Miss., Vernice Copeland Hudgins (Alexander), and Latrone Demiel (Shannon), all of Suffolk, Va.; one sister, Mollie Copeland Shoulders, of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Melvin L. Copeland (Ellen), of Suffolk, Va.; 10 sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law; 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Viewing will take place Wednesday, May 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, Va., and a funeral service will be held Thursday, May, 24, at 11 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens and Chapel Mausoleum, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk, Va. Family will assemble at the residence of Vernice Copeland Hudgins at 10 a.m. Thursday.
