NSA golfers win state title

Members of the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy golf team won their first state championship on Monday at Sleepy Hole Golf Course. Their coach, William Tomlin, was named Coach of the Year.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy brought home its first state golf championship on Monday, winning the Division 2 VISAA tournament by eight strokes over Greenbrier Christian.

The tournament was held at the 18-hole, par-72 Sleepy Hole Golf Course, with the top three scores from each team totaled for the team score.

The Saints, led by Keith Cooper, Stuart Brazil and Thomas Meyers, carded a 228. Greenbrier was the runner up with a total score of 236.

Nansemond-Suffolk individual scores were as follows: Keith Cooper, 74; Stuart Brazil, 75; Thomas Meyers, 79; Trey Wren, 81; Will Comer, 82; and Zach Roberts, 83.

Cooper, a freshman, took second place in the tournament, and junior Brazil finished third. Meyers, an eighth grader, finished ninth. All three also received all-state honors.

Saints’ coach William Tomlin was named Coach of the Year.
