Storm wins NC tourney

Members of the Southampton Storm 14U celebrate after winning the Mother’s Day Mayhem tournament in Elizabeth City, N.C. recently.

Southampton Storm 14U won the Gold Division of the PONY Mother’s Day Mayhem tournament held in Elizabeth City, N.C., earlier this month.

The team played Virginia Legends-Elite in the championship game, winning 7-2. The winning pitcher was Kelby Lewis of Boykins. The Storm’s defensive effort was led by middle infielders August Ringer and Allie Holt.

Katelyn Cobb hit two home runs, one in the semifinal game against Orion Hunter and one in the championship game. Cobb was named tournament MVP.

The semifinal game was the toughest game of the day and was won in the last inning by great at-bats by Cobb, Brittany Wade, Viviana Martinez and Audrey Armstrong. The team won on a walk-off single by Lewis and pinch-runner Audra Nahrebecki.

The semi-final game was pitched by Bailey Griffin and Katelyn Cobb. Katie Peelen pitched a near-perfect game against the NC Intensity.

Southampton Storm Fastpitch is a local travel team organization that has three teams competing in Softball Nation, NSA and USSSA tournaments. The teams are made up of local talented fastpitch players from Franklin, Southampton, Prince George, Dinwiddie, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Suffolk.
