SUFFOLK — Linwood R. Joe, 84, of the 200 block of Wellons Street, passed away May 22, 2012. He was a native of Nansemond County and son of the late Junnie and Elfreda Joe. He was predeceased by a brother, David Lee Joe.

He was retired as a hazardous materials coordinator for the Department of Defense after 30 years of service. Mr. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street where he was a member of the joint board ministry, parking ministry, Brotherhood Ministry and served as sextant. He was a former chairman of the trustee board and former president of the Isaac Williams Male Usher Board. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 48.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Catherine Joe, of Suffolk; one daughter, Betty Milteer (Maurice), of Suffolk; two sons, Ernest Eure, of North Carolina, and Richard S. Joe Sr. and his fiancée, Dee Fields, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Louise Reid, of Palm Coast, Fla., and Mattie Mae Parker, of Suffolk; one brother, John A. Joe Sr. (Ann), of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Samantha Milteer, Shantia Milteer Hardy (Victor), Richard Joe Jr., Rodney Joe and Elijahuan Harper; one great-grandchild, Victor L. Hardy Jr.; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at noon Saturday, May 26, 2012, at First Baptist Church Mahan Street, Suffolk, officiated by Dr. Steven G. Blunt. Entombment will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
