The Suffolk Police Department announced on Tuesday it had made an arrest in a smash-and-grab burglary at a pawn shop almost a month ago.
Joshua Gregory Burke, 20, of the 900 block of N.C. Highway, Gates, N.C., is charged with burglary, grand larceny and felony destruction of property.
He currently is incarcerated and awaiting additional charges from Gates, according to a press release from the city.
The burglary occurred about 2:15 a.m. on April 30, when a red Ford Explorer sped into the Suffolk Plaza Shopping Center parking lot, reversed and smashed through the front door of Precision Pawn, located at 892 N. Main St.
The driver entered the store and removed several items, according to a press release sent that day.
City officials credited the media with publicizing video of the incident, as well as assistance provided by the Gates County Sheriff’s Office.
