Sentara announces leadership changes at Obici

A series of leadership changes in the Sentara health system has led to a vacancy in the president’s position at Sentara Obici Hospital. An interim president has been named.

Kurt Hofelich, who has been president of Obici since June 2010, has been named president of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He replaces Mary L. Blunt there, who was promoted to corporate vice president of the system’s Peninsula hospitals, including Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Hofelich

Hofelich has been with Sentara since 1992 and held a number of posts within the organization, including vice president and division executive of Sentara Ambulatory Operations and Rehabilitation. He has extensive experience in hospital operations, ambulatory development, program development and physician relationship management, according to a press release from the health care system.

Steven Julian, vice president of medical affairs at Obici, has been named interim president of the Suffolk hospital.

In addition, Michael Gentry, corporate vice president Southside, assumes leadership for Obici as part of an expanded role. Gentry joined Sentara in 2008 and oversaw the construction of Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, which opened in August 2011 in Virginia Beach.

Sentara has begun its recruitment process for the vacant positions, according to the press release.
