City human resource director resigns

The city has announced the resignation of its director of human resources, who has been with the city for about four years.

Ronnie Charles has taken a job as the Director of Human Resources for the city of Baltimore, Md. His last day in Suffolk is June 20.

A search will begin immediately, according to a press release from the city. Assistant Director of Human Resources Jessica Stallings will serve as interim director.

“We hate to lose Ronnie,” City Manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn was quoted as saying in the press release. “His knowledge and experience were critical in advancing Suffolk in the area of human resource management. But I certainly understand his desire to expand his professional career and provide for his family. We wish him nothing but success in his future professional endeavors.”

According to the press release, Charles implemented numerous human resource initiatives during his time in Suffolk, including developing the city’s administrative policies manual, establishing the first city-wide safety program, developing Internet recruiting for the city and revamping the risk management program.
