Housing Authority to honor fathers

As a part of the Virginia Father’s Day Initiative 2012 this week, the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority will join the effort of public housing authorities, faith-based agencies, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, state agencies and private industries to help fathers and father figures to reconnect and stay connected with their families.
Following a proclamation in honor of the Fatherhood Initiative, the local housing authority plan to distribute bookmarks and pens to fathers within Suffolk’s public housing communities, as well as to fathers associated with the city’s housing choice voucher program, partnering church organizations and in the central office.
The SRHA also will partner with the National Call Dad Inc. to host a community dinner focus group for fathers and father figures to discuss reconnecting fathers with families on Thursday at the Cypress Manor/Parker Riddick Family Investment Center, located at 94 Stacey Drive.
