A woman was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after being struck by a vehicle on a downtown street during the lunch hour.
Officers and rescue personnel responded to the 100 block of North Main Street for the auto-pedestrian accident. It happened around 12:45 p.m., according to a witness.
When they arrived, rescue personnel found Ruby Artis had been hit by a vehicle as she crossed the road into moving traffic, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George.
She was transported to Norfolk by ground ambulance with a head injury. She is being evaluated at the hospital, George said.
