Suffolk Presbyterian awards scholarships

Suffolk Presbyterian Church recently awarded scholarships of $2,000 each to three Suffolk high school graduates, Shonta D. Jones, Tyler S. Mizelle and Elizabeth Spear.

Jones graduated from King’s Fork High School. She plans to attend Virginia State University and study nursing.

Mizelle graduated from Lakeland High School. He plans to attend Virginia Tech and study mechanical engineering.

Spear graduated from Nansemond River High School. She plans to attend the University of Virginia and study marketing.

Suffolk Presbyterian Church, at 410 N. Broad St., administers the scholarships to serve Suffolk Public School graduates pursuing postsecondary education. The scholarship funds were established by the late Edith Volper Buttafoco in memory of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Volper, and by the late Violet Volper Pond in memory of her daughter, Brenda Beamon Willis. Each scholarship will be paid over two years to the recipient’s college.
