Two fundraisers are planned in coming weeks to benefit a Suffolk officer who was seriously injured in the line of duty.

Officer James Winslow suffered a violent assault after a traffic stop on Nansemond Parkway on May 19. He spent several weeks in the hospital and now is recuperating at home.

“He’s got a very, very long road to recovery,” said James Salmon, who is a member of recreational motorcycle group Shadowed Few, which is sponsoring an event this week. The fundraiser will be held Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Madigan’s Restaurant, 425 E. Pinner St. It will include a car and motorcycle wash, bake sale, food, raffles, cornhole tournament and more.

“We just feel that this will be something good to do for him and his family to let him know the citizens do care about him,” Salmon said.

In addition, the Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Police Officers’ Association are organizing a golf tournament July 13 at Suffolk Golf Course, 1227 Holland Road.

The range and registration open at 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The captain’s choice tournament will feature door prizes and include lunch. There is a $60 cost per player.
