Dorothy Ingram Brooks, 62, of 915 Truman Road, Suffolk, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late Joe Ingram Jr. and Dorothy Ingram. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Ingram.

She attended John F. Kennedy High School. She retired from Sentara Home Care as a nurse assistant. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mahan Street, where she was an usher, member of Loving Care Ministries, Health and Wholeness Ministry, Hospitality Ministry and was on the Women’s Day Planning Committee. She also was a member of the East Suffolk Gardens Civic League.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charlie Brooks; daughter, Yovonda Kolo (Jonathan), of Dunkirk, Md.; stepdaughter, Michelle Haley (Steven), of Bowie, Md.; two sons, Ronald Ingram (Tiffany) and Omar Ingram, both of Suffolk; brothers, Joe Ingram III, of Franklin, Va., Phil Ingram (Valencia), of Virginia Beach, Va., Larry Ingram, of Suffolk; sisters, Carrie Ingram and Patricia Hymn (Jeffrey), both of Suffolk; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St., officiated by Dr. Steven G. Blunt. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
