Mary Daphne Britt Howell

SALUDA — Mary Daphne Britt Howell, widow of Alfred C. Howell Sr., went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 22, 2012. Daphne was born on Oct. 29, 1928, in Bladen County, N.C. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Irma Estelle Wimberly, Sybil Britt Burgess, and brother, Marion Russell Britt. She is survived by her brother, John Graden Britt Sr.; her children, Alfred C. Howell (Debbie), Jan H. Creekmore (Walter), Joey L. Howell (Cindy) and Clay K. Howell (Sharon); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known for her humble and compassionate manner, Daphne exemplified her love of family and faith. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda, Va. Graveside services will be held in historic St. Luke’s Memorial Park Cemetery in Smithfield, Va., on Wednesday, June 27, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Make A Difference Fund, 7519 Hospital Drive, P.O. Box 1130, Gloucester, VA 23061 to show gratitude for the exceptional care and kindness provided by the doctors and nurses, or to Forest Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 425, Saluda, VA 23149.
