Ollie Vernon White

Ollie Vernon “O.V.” White, 82, of 313 Boat St., Suffolk, Va., died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of Ollie White and Mary V. White.

He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of St. Mark AME Zion Church. He was a member of Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge 48P and Hall Place Community Civic League.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Barbara Ann White; five daughters, Wendy Renay Lawler (Richard), Annette W. Goodman (Eugene), both of Suffolk, Angela W. Heflin (Douglas), of Chesapeake, Debbie Ann White and LaTrina W. Dirtion (Rodney), both of Suffolk; two sons, Ronald White (Diane), of Queens, N.Y., and Vernon White Sr., of Suffolk; sisters, Barbara Lewis, of Georgia, and Madelene McDuffle (Robert), of Florida; brothers, James White, of Suffolk, and Phillip White (Becky), of Texas; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one aunt, Cora Ricks; one uncle, Edward White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Metropolitan Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Vincent Jones Sr. Entombment will be in Carver Memorial Mausoleum. A wake will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 13, 2012, at St. Mark AME Zion Church, 817 McKinley Ave., Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mark AME Zion Church Building Fund.
