No injuries reported in weekend fire

An early-morning fire on Sunday in this apartment building downtown resulted in no injuries.

No injuries were reported in an early-morning fire Sunday in the 200 block of Lee Street.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue and the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to the fire shortly before 7 a.m. The fire was confined to the kitchen of one apartment on the third floor and was quickly brought under control, according to a news release from the city.

One adult and two children were displaced and were being assisted by the Suffolk chapter of the American Red Cross. All other apartment units were habitable, according to the release.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.
