Sarah Elizabeth Yauger was indicted in relation to an incident that occurred Sept. 14, 2011, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

On that date, Suffolk Animal Control officers responded to a citizen complaint that a dog appeared to be dying in a pen in the 200 block of North Saratoga Street, Klink said.

When officers arrived, the black lab/beagle mix was “in obvious distress,” Klink said. There was no water in the pen.

The dog, which was approximately 6 years old, was determined to be suffering from heat stroke transported to the veterinarian’s office, where it suffered seizures, Klink said. The veterinarian recommended that the dog be euthanized.

Yauger’s arraignment is set for Aug. 8.
