Boyer finishes 22nd in Richmond

Suffolk’s Amellia Boyer finished in 22nd place in her age division during the final round of the 43rd Virginia State Golf Association Junior Girls’ Championship on Wednesday at the Richmond Country Club.

Boyer finished the two-day tournament with a 90-98—179, putting her three strokes ahead of her closest competitor, Amy Southall of King George, who carded consistent 91s both days of the tournament.

Southwest Virginian Amanda Hollandsworth, 16, of Floyd shot a final round 1-under-par 71 to post a two-stroke victory.

Hollandsworth, a rising junior at Floyd County High School, completed the championship at even-par 144 to take home her first VSGA individual title. Northern Virginian Karishma Thiagaraj, 18, of Haymarket returned a final-day best 2-under 70 to close play at 2-over 146. Salem’s Kristin Hearp, 14, had 74 and finished three back at 3-over 147.
