Betty Mae Stevenson, 73, of 13314 Upper Hastings Way, Carrollton, Va., died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at her residence. She was a native of Suffolk and the daughter of the late Tom and Sadie Copeland.

She was attended East Suffolk High School. She also attended St. Leo’s College and Thomas Nelson Community College, where she received an associate degree in science. She retired from the civil service at Fort Eustis.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, David C. Stevenson Sr.; one daughter, Debbie R. Walker (Bobbie), of Fruit Cove, Fla.; two sons, David C. Stevenson Jr. and Rickey R. Stevenson (Shirley), of Newport News, Va.; five sisters, Queenie Kindred, Edna Skeeter, Minnie Holly, all of Suffolk, Margaret Boone, of Chesapeake, Va., and Gloria Deloatch, of Portsmouth, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Copeland, of North Carolina, and David Copeland, of California; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home officiated by Bishop John Kindred. Interment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
