Kincaid started on the pole, at 85.267 mph, and paced the first 39 circuits. Meanwhile, Balluzzo, who started sixth, worked his way toward the front, taking over second on lap 18.

Quickly closing in on the leader, Balluzzo looked high and low, hunting for an opening. Kincaid fought him off at every turn, however. On lap 40, Balluzzo took another run at Kincaid, ducking underneath him at the end of the backstretch. The two locked horns, and Kincaid took a hard ride into the outside wall, prompting the last of the race’s four yellow flags.

After a video review, officials classified the scuffle as a racing incident and allowed Balluzzo to retain the lead. On the final restart, Balluzzo eased away from points leader Mike Rudy and won by a little more than two lengths.

Jimmy Humblet, Danny Harrell and Matt Slye tailed the lead duo to the finish.
