Bria Kelly to perform at farmers’ market

After some gutsy performances on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” Smithfield teen Bria Kelly will take to the stage at Suffolk Farmers’ Market today.

Today is Back to School Day at the market, and Kelly is set to perform with local band Kindred Place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., a city press release states.

After a lot of positive feedback from judges, Kelly was finally knocked out of the talent show on Wednesday.

Not everyone agreed with the decision. “You should have been on next week’s show,” Ken Laughlin wrote on Kelly’s Facebook wall. “Didn’t see one act that had as much talent as you, best of luck with your future ventures.”

The 16-year-old is a regular performer around Smithfield and Hampton Roads. According to her website, Kelly has opened concerts for major artists and bands Craig Morgan, Miranda Lambert, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town, Rodney Atkins and the Carter Twins.

Back to School Day at the market today will also feature the Teeny Tiny Farm Petting Zoo and complimentary face painting, the release stated.

The market takes place at the Suffolk Visitor Center Pavilion at the corner of North Main Street and Constance Road. Patrons can find fresh, locally grown produce, baked goods, dairy products, crafts, handmade wooden toys and potted plants.

The market is free and open to the public. Weekday hours are Wednesdays from 3-6 p.m. and Fridays from 4-7 p.m.
