And the nominees are…

Each week through the fall high school sports season, the Suffolk News-Herald will announce nominees for Player of the Week. These will not always be football players, though this week that’s how it worked out.

The winner will be determined by our readers, who are asked to vote by Wednesday at 7 p.m. by sending an email with the subject “Player of the Week” to sports@suffolknewsherald.com. Just include the player’s name, and we’ll add up the totals. You can also vote by clicking your favorite in the poll on our Facebook page.

Starting next Sunday, we’ll feature the readers’ choice in a story on the Sports page.

  • Charles Clark, senior running back at King’s Fork High School — He rushed for 148 yards on 23 carries and scored all three of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns.
  • Jaquan Yulee, freshman linebacker at Lakeland High School — The freshman who did not play like a freshman seemed like he was everywhere on defense against Deep Creek.
  • Latrell Sandifer, junior running back at Nansemond River High School — He led his team against Wilson with 20 carries for 170 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Raekwon Johnson, senior running back at Lakeland High School — He provided crucial drive-sustaining runs against Deep Creek, carrying eight times for 61 yards and scoring the first two touchdowns.
