Ruby J. Burgess, 88, of 909 Freeney Ave., Suffolk, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of Missouri Moore Davis and Colonel Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Burgess Sr.; two sisters, Beulah Richardson and Mary C. Winborne; one brother, Clarence Davis.

She retired from Planters Nut and Chocolate Company after 44 years. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and was a faithful member since childhood.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, William O. Burgess Jr. (Sharon), of Chesapeake; nieces, cousins and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at Canaan Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Vernon W. Hairston Sr. Interment will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
