SMITHFIELD — Dennis Neal Spady, 58, passed away Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk. Dennis was the husband of Linda Saunders Spady for 31 wonderful years and was the son of Bruce R. and Eleanor “Gray” M. Spady. Also surviving are his sons, Brock Neal Spady, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Blake Lee Spady, in graduate school in Queensland, Australia; his sister, Teresa “Tres” S. Beale (Rick), of Austin, Texas; brother, Bruce Wayne Spady (Darlene), of Smithfield; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jackie and Harvey Saunders Jr.; sister-in-law, Marilyn Pasteur (Dee), and brother-in-law, David Saunders (Sarah); a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, Dennis graduated from Isle of Wight Academy (1972) and graduated from Lynchburg College (1976). He was a lifelong farmer and was an active member of Benn’s United Methodist Church.

The Spady family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Benn’s United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 in Smithfield Baptist Church with the Rev. O.H. Burton Jr. and the Rev. Fred Breeden officiating. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Bethany Tan of Norfolk Surgical Group, the wonderfully attentive physicians, nurses and staff of Obici’s intensive care unit, Carrollton and Chuckatuck fire departments, and the many, many friends and family that have been there for them.
