Man charged with shooting dog

A Suffolk man was charged with animal cruelty Tuesday after allegedly shooting his neighbor’s pit bull.

Keenan Laquan Moody, 18, also is charged with shooting in a public place and reckless handling of a firearm.

According to city spokeswoman Diana Klink, police were dispatched on a report of a person with a gun to the 6100 block of Brookwood Drive about 11:45 p.m. Monday. The victim told police the suspect had shot his dog.

One bullet hit the dog in its shoulder and leg, Klink said. The dog was still alive, so the owners took it to an emergency veterinarian.

Klink said the events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation. She did not know the dog’s prognosis.
