Mary Sue Powell Goodwin, 79, of Suffolk, Va., passed away Sept. 18, 2012. She was born in Nansemond County, the daughter of the late Charlie and Susie Taylor Powell. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Floyd “Skinny” Goodwin; and brothers, Charles Taylor Powell and Otis Gordon Powell.

Mary retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. She was also a member of the Sinai Chapter No. 18 in Suffolk, where she was a past matron and currently serving as secretary. She was a past grand representative of Kansas in Virginia. Her other memberships included Order of the Eastern Star, Past Bethel Guardian, Bethel #28 in Suffolk, International Order of Job’s Daughters. She also was a member of the Chuckatuck High School Reunion Committee, currently serving as secretary/treasurer.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen G. and Shannon C. Bradley, and son, Floyd Byron Goodwin, all of Suffolk, Va. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and friends. She was the World’s Best Mama … we love you and you will live in our hearts forever.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Rawls officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
