The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a flood advisory for the city of Suffolk and surrounding areas.

Radar detected a widespread area of moderate rain with embedded thunderstorms producing locally heavy rainfall over the area, according to the advisory. The radar estimated between one half-inch and one inch had fallen in thunderstorms across the area.

Runoff from the heavy rainfall could cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams, in low-lying areas and areas of poor drainage, according to the advisory.
