Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police have cleared the scene of a gas leak in the 200 block of Burnetts Way, located off Godwin Boulevard near Sentara Obici Hospital.

A contractor doing work at that location notified police that a gas line had been damaged about 3:47 p.m., according to a press release from the city.

The fire and police departments cleared the scene at 5:06 p.m. Several residents who were evacuated from their homes were allowed to return.
