Following are this week’s Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week nominees:

  • Davon Grayson, senior wide receiver for King’s Fork football — He had 11 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown, helping the Bulldogs nearly break defending AAA Division 6 state champion Oscar Smith’s 54-game district win streak.
  • Kasey Smith, junior forward for Lakeland field hockey — Though Lakeland lost a thriller in the regional quarterfinal to Cox, whom they have beaten only once before, she scored twice against them, including a clutch goal with 38.5 seconds remaining to send the game into what would become double overtime.
  • Katelyn McCracken, senior runner for Nansemond-Suffolk cross country — Her second place 19:01 time at the TCIS meet this past week was a school record and personal best that earned her a spot on the TCIS All-Conference team.
