Bessie Valentine Knox, 87, of 1814 Carolina Road, Suffolk, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Mecklenburg County, Va., and the daughter of the late Pearl Harthrown Valentine and Sam Valentine. He was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Knox; and a daughter, Cynthia Knox.

She was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ, where she was an usher.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Clarence Knox (Anita) and Robert Knox (Doris), both of Suffolk; one sister, Barbara Gholson, of Petersburg, Va.; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two devoted friends, Helen Boone and Peggy Baker; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Antioch United Church of Christ officiated by the Rev. Jarvis Jones. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Clarence Knox, 2216 Georgia Ave. Crocker Funeral Home Inc. is handling the arrangements.
