Carrie J. Cousins, 79, a former resident of Suffolk, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Lewiston, N.C., and the daughter of the late Arie Cherry Smallwood and Alphonzo Smallwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vann A. Cousins Sr.
She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church and a former choir member.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Judy Blaize (Eric), of Raleigh, N.C., and Elaine Jones (George), of Long Island, N.Y.; three sons, Jerry J. Cousins (Millicent), Vann L. Cousins (Celestine), both of Portsmouth, and Dennis A. Cousins (Bernadine), of Gary, Ind.; one sister, Ruby Watkins, of Suffolk, Va.; one brother, Linwood Smallwood (Lottie), of Suffolk; 11 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Metropolitan Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Robert L. Hobbs. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crocker Funeral Home. The family will assemble at Crocker Funeral Home at 11:15 a.m. Friday for the procession to the church.
