IWA beats PCS at home

Isle of Wight Academy’s boys’ basketball team fought off a determined Portsmouth Christian on Friday at home, winning 64-61.
Nathan Sivertson had 20 points and 18 rebounds, 11 on the offensive end, to lead the Chargers. Teammate Casey Williams added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
PCS vaulted to a 31-28 halftime lead, but Alex Fronfelter began the IWA comeback bid with a field goal 50 seconds into the fourth quarter that gave the Chargers a lead, 45-44, for the first time since the early going.
The Chargers took a 61-52 lead with 2:11 to go, but they went scoreless for nearly 2 minutes, allowing the Patriots an opening to start a 7-0 scoring run. Hunter Triplett made a foul shot with 16.4 seconds to go to make it 62-59 and Sivertson made a clutch pair of foul shots with 3.2 seconds left to seal the win.
IWA is 3-0, 1-0 in the Metro Athletic Conference. PCS is 1-2, 0-1.
