WINDSOR — A situation involving a resident barricaded inside a Windsor-area home came to a peaceful end at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The homeowner, who reportedly needed mental health treatment, was taken into custody but will not be charged, said Kristin Wilda, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. The resident was not identified.
Isle of Wight dispatch received a call at 11:20 a.m. from someone concerned about the home in the 16000 block of Bob White Road because the windows were open and there appeared to be disarray within, Wilda said.
No one appeared to be home, but when deputies and Virginia State Police arrived, the homeowner was inside and refused to exit, Wilda said.
The home is between Courthouse Highway and Uzzell Church Road.
Terry Moore, who lives at 16221 Bob White Road, said she left her home at 11:30 a.m. and returned 90 minutes later. She was told she could not go to her home because “there is a situation with firearms.”
Moore said she saw more police cars arriving on scene and fewer leaving. When she called police dispatch centers in Smithfield and Isle of Wight, she said no one would tell her what was going on.
