The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys’ and girls’ swim teams faced against a total of eight different schools in a meet at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond on Saturday.

The girls’ team went 3-4 on the day, with victories over Christchurch, Flint Hill and Greenbrier Christian. The boys’ team went 2-5, defeating Christchurch and Greenbrier Christian.

The boys’ 200-yard medley relay team blew away the state qualifying time of 2:00.20 with its own time of 1:55.55. Junior Gregory Beale, freshman David Forman, senior Zach Hess and junior Ben Wilson make up the team.

The girls’ relay team also qualified for states in the same event. The standard it had to meet was 2:12.71, and it finished the race in 2:09.27. The team includes sophomore Taylor Berard, senior Katelyn McCracken, junior Emily Neuberg and junior Laura Wild.

Ben Wilson qualified for states in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.04, four seconds better than the state standard. He also came in almost five seconds under the state standard for the 100-yard breaststroke, qualifying with a time of 1:05.60.

Emily Neuberg surpassed the state qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly by more than two seconds with a 1:07.73 time.

NSA’s next swim meet is tonight at the Collegiate School Aquatic Center in Richmond against Trinity Episcopal.
