Nuckles swims a personal best

Suffolk native and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy alumnus Bryan Nuckles had an individual victory and an individual record of his own to help lead the McDaniel College Gree Terror during the 2012 Franklin and Marshall Invitation swim meet recently.

Nuckles won the 50 free in a time of 21.58 after qualifying with the top time (21.51). He finished second in the 100 free but bettered his own record with a time of 47.41 seconds in the finals.

Teammate Brad Brooks recorded three individual program records and two NCAA Division III B-Cut records to lead McDaniel in the meet.

As a team, the Green Terror rewrote the record book with seven new marks en route to a sixth-place finish with 361 points. The host Diplomats won the seven-team meet with 829.5 points.

Brooks and Nuckles joined Jesse Mills and Stevie Hoyt to open the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay, touching with a combined time of 1:28.04.

Brooks, Hoyt and Nuckles joined with Patrick Rogers to finish second with program-record showings in both the 400 and 800 free relays.

The 800 free relay was 14.52 seconds better than the previous mark with their time of 7:06.28, while the 400 relay came in nearly two seconds faster at 3:13.62.

The two medley relays also recorded top-10 times. The 400 medley relay of Hoyt, Jono Leafblad, Mills and Nuckles was seventh with a time of 3:44.34, which is seventh all-time.

Brooks, Leafblad, Mills and Nuckles were eighth in the 200 relay with a time of 1:43.24, which is eighth all-time.
