Just hours after the city’s first homicide of the year, another man was injured by gunshots.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Cogic Square about 10:51 a.m. on Jan. 1 in reference to a shooting. The victim told police he was walking on Davis Boulevard when a white, four-door Lexus pulled up beside him and an unknown individual pulled a gun and began firing at him.

“After being struck, he ran to his friend’s house for assistance,” city spokeswoman Diana Klink said in an email.

Emergency medical services technicians responded and transported him to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.

Detectives are investigating, Klink said.

The incident happened just hours after Carlton Holland Jr. was shot and killed just after 3 p.m. in the 400 block of Linden Avenue.
