Police on Tuesday arrested a man on charges he placed a fake smoke detector containing a camera in his estranged wife’s bedroom to record her movements.
Timothy Mark Brake, 51, is charged with unlawful filming or photographing of another.
The couple is going through a divorce, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink. On Sept. 28, the victim reported she received text messages from her estranged husband detailing her activities in the bedroom that morning.
Suspicious, she had a friend check the bedroom. The friend discovered the fake smoke detector, with contained a microphone and camera positioned to record the bed.
Wires for the smoke detector led into the attic, Klink added. The video recording device had been removed from the attic. There was no sign of forced entry to the residence.
It is unknown when the camera was placed in the bedroom, Klink said.
No court date has yet been set for Brake.
