A portion of South Quay Road is closed Monday night as police investigate an accident that involved a log truck.

The accident occurred about 6:58 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Quay Road, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said. A passenger vehicle ran into the side of the log truck as it was pulling onto the roadway, causing the car to catch fire.

Witnesses pulled the driver to safety and used a fire extinguisher to help put out the fire.

The driver was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to Klink.

One lane of South Quay Road is closed westbound.
