Linda Lorena Herndon-Rodgers

Mrs. Linda Lorena Herndon-Rodgers, formerly of 823 Garfield Ave., went into eternal sleep on Jan. 20, 2013, in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Matilda Brock Herndon, and is survived by her father, James Herndon Sr. She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School, and she was a faithful and devoted member of St. Mark AME Zion Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ladona Lawrence (William), of Concord, N.C., and Melissa Carroll (Robert), of Suffolk, Va.; and two sons, Sgt. Baronnie Rodgers (Michelle), of Fayetteville, N.C. and Michael Rodgers (Sharonda), also of Suffolk, Va.; and 3 stepsons, Kendall, Kevin and Wilson Llanos; 13 grandchildren; two aunts, Sallie B. Person and Pearl Adams; two brothers, Master Gunnery Sgt. Alton Herndon Sr. (Retired) (Sonya), of San Diego, Calif.; James Herndon Jr. (Mary), of Suffolk; The Three Sisters,  Hazel Knight (Vernon), of Suffolk, Gloria Young (Reginald), and Sandra Harris (Dennis), also of Suffolk, and a host of other relatives, and a special cousin Regena Herndon.

A funeral of triumph will be held Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. at St. Mark AME Zion Church with the Rev. Dr. Vincent Jones officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dill Road, Suffolk. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11:30 a.m. until service time. The family will assemble at 102 Lewis Ave. for the funeral procession at noon.
