Janie Maurice Boone, 69, of 1056 Centerbrooke Lane, Suffolk, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Russell James Boone Sr. and Inez Virginia Willie Boone.

She was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She attended Norfolk State University and Hampton University. She retired from the Department of Finance in Newport News, Va., as secretary-clerk. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she was a member of the senior choir, Pastor’s Aid and First Bible Class.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Audrey B. Cooper, of Hampton, Va., and Jacqueline C. Boone, of Suffolk; three brothers, Freddie L. Willie (Lillian), of Chesapeake, Va., Aaron D. Boone, of Suffolk, and Cleveland Boone (Geneva), of Hopewell, Va.; sister-in-law, Barbara Boone, of Suffolk; two aunts, two nephews, three nieces, host of great-nieces, great-nephews, a host of cousins and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Canaan Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Vernon W. Hairston Sr. Interment will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
