Nathan Sivertson scored 22 points and grabbed 22 rebounds as Isle of Wight Academy defeated Alliance Christian 76-59 Tuesday night in Portsmouth.
Sivertson also had five assists as the Chargers (18-7, 9-6 in the Metro Athletic Conference) out-rebounded the Falcons 57-21, including a 29-7 advantage on the IWA offensive end of the floor.
The Chargers trailed 12-9 after a quarter and led only by six, 31-25, at halftime. They gained that advantage with an 8-0 scoring run to begin the second quarter and gradually expanded their lead as the game progressed.
Sophomore Casey Williams added 14 points; Austin Rogers and Alex Fronfelter each had 11 for IWA. Rainer Marfio had 9 rebounds.
Alliance was led by Chris Cane, with 18 points.
The previous day, however, StoneBridge School continued its season-long mastery of IWA, defeating the Chargers 53-48.
In a game postponed several weeks by a snowstorm, Isaiah Cotton led the Cavaliers with 15 points; teammates Alex Walker and Alec Ferley each had 12. Stonebridge also beat IWA 59-54 Dec. 3 at Jester Gymnasium.
IWA was led by Nathan Sivertson and his 23 points. He was the only Charger in double figures.
The Chargers led by 6, 11-5, after a quarter and were tied at 17 at the half. They led by a basket, 33-31, after three quarters, but the fun ended there for IWA. StoneBridge scored the first six points of the fourth quarter on three-pointers by Chidozie Igbonagwam to take a lead they never relinquished. StoneBridge outscored IWA 22-15 in that quarter.
The Cavaliers also made good on 11 IWA personal fouls in the second half, making nine of 12 foul shots in that span.
