The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the Virginia Sheriff’s Scholarship Program.
Applicants must live in the city of Suffolk, attend a Virginia college or university and be majoring in criminal justice or law enforcement.
Application forms are available at the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office, Mills E. Godwin Jr. Courts Building, 150 N. Main St., Suffolk, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applicants also must meet with Sheriff Raleigh Isaacs, who will then forward applications with a letter of recommendation to the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute for final judging. Winners will be announced at the end of May.
The scholarship funds are made available through the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute and individual and business memberships in the institute. Local citizens and businesses receive one mailing per year asking them to join the institute, and a portion of all funds collected are returned in the form of scholarships.
