The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office on Thursday arrested and charged a man with an arson that occurred Wednesday morning.
Dwayne Eddie Goodman Jr., 27, of Suffolk, is charged with arson, destruction of property and breaking and entering, according to a press release from the city.
Goodman is accused of setting a fire in the Suffolk Station Apartments, located in the 1200 block of Forest Oak Lane off Carolina Road, according to the press release. A police officer responding to complaints of smoke found a shattered glass door at the back of the building. A sheet of plywood had been removed from the door, and a large rock was near the broken glass. The officer could see smoke coming from inside the vacant apartment, as well as melting mini-blinds.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the fire, which was contained to one apartment.
Goodman currently is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail on no bond.
