Teen event set for Friday

This Friday night, teens in North Suffolk will have no excuse to complain of being bored.
Suffolk Parks and Recreation Department will host “an evening of fun” at Creekside Recreation Center, from 6 to 10 p.m.
Kendra Banks, a recreation specialist with the department who has been organizing Friday Night Fallout, said it would include games, music, foosball, basketball and refreshments.
The gym will be open, there’ll be Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation and teenagers can play jump rope, she added.
“It was something different that I decided we could do in the northern end of town to cater to the teen population,” she said.
“A lot of the programs on that side of town are for (elementary) school-aged children.”
The event will be fully staffed, so parents can drop their children off, then pick them up at the end, she said.
Entry costs $5, and families are encouraged to pre-register by calling 514-7245. “If you want to come and register on the day of the event, that’s fine; but you will have to bring check or money order — we won’t accept cash,” Banks said.
The event is specifically for teens ages 12 to 15, and a number have already registered, Banks said.
“It will provide a safe environment for them to come and mix with peers in their own age group and people that they go to school with,” she said.
Banks said she is hoping for a big turnout at the event, which is being held for the first time and could become a regular attraction.
