To the editor:

I read with regret that the city manager went out of state to find a new fire chief.

When I retired in 2001, there were several firefighters and officers who were either working on degrees or already had received them. I can only imagine how they must feel. Well, really I think I know how they must feel — betrayed.

Think about it, folks. How would you feel after working for 15 or 20 years and serving your city only to have the city manager say you’re not qualified for the position leading your department?
