A Suffolk man was preparing to be released from the hospital Monday after a weekend spent recovering from a dirt bike crash.
Rodney DeNario Jones, 25, was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital on Friday following the crash, which occurred at the intersection of Brook Avenue and Carolina Road about 5:45 p.m.
City Chief of Staff Debbie George said a group of dirt bikes and a four-wheeler were riding together northbound on Carolina Road when one of them slowed to make the turn onto Brook Avenue. Two of the bikes collided, and Jones was thrown from his bike and struck the curb, George said.
Though he was wearing a helmet, Jones suffered serious injuries. However, a Sentara spokeswoman said he was about to be released Monday.
Police also are searching for the other dirt bike rider involved in the crash, who failed to stop after the crash, George said. The only description police have to work with is a black male.
