Writtenberry wins scholarship

Suffolk native Robert “Bobby” Writtenberry will be among 23 East Carolina University students honored at a banquet April 13.
Writtenberry, a senior computer science major received the prestigious Tidewater Virginia Alumni Chapter Scholarship, which has a $1,000 value.
Writtenberry is a second-time Alumni Scholarship recipient. He is one of the founding fathers of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity at ECU, having held various positions such as executive vice president, scholarship chairman and parent relations chairman.
He is also involved with Victory Campus Ministries and has volunteered with the ECU Youth Arts Festival, the Dream Factory, the Golden Living Center, the “A Time For Science” fundraiser 5K, and with Eastern North Carolina Stop Human Trafficking Now.
He is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Golden Key international honor society. He enjoys skim boarding, running, disc golf and movies.
“These students are leaders on campus, serve their communities, and excel in the classroom,” Paul J. Clifford, president and CEO of the East Carolina Alumni Association, said of Writtenberry and the other honorees. “They are among the best and brightest students at East Carolina University today, and they will be leaders in our community tomorrow. The Alumni Association is proud to call them Alumni Scholars and hold them up as examples to Pirate Nation.”
