Extra city police and fire officers will patrol King’s Fork High School Friday in response to threats of a “shoot out” and explosion, principal Suzanne Rice says.

Posts on social media website Twitter about a “shoot out” at the school were reported to administration Thursday morning, Rice wrote in a letter to parents.

“We conducted a lengthy investigation and could not find any evidence on any Twitter account of this nature,” she wrote.

Wednesday morning about 11:30 a.m., Rice wrote, reports were received of a message written on a stall in the girls’ restroom: “KF will be blown up on April 26.”

Police and fire investigators were called to the school for a continuing investigation, and “the culprit will face criminal charges when found,” according to Rice.

“Your child’s safety is our priority here at King’s Fork High School,” Rice assured parents.

An automated call sent to King’s Fork Middle School parents Thursday evening indicated a message was found written on a boys’ bathroom wall saying the school would be blown up. Similar threats also were found earlier in the week at Lakeland High School.

Anyone with information on the threats is urged to contact the school at 923-5240 or Suffolk Police Department at 514-7915.
